American here (who did not and would never vote for Trump) and I absolutely care about their economies. What kind of a freak doesn't care about suffering?

We have been charged tariffs by Canada for years on tons of goods!!!!!!! I just seen this list a couple years ago where Canada was charging tariffs to the United States on lots of merchandise but ironically all those lists have disappeared and you can't Google anything about tariffs and Canada and the United States without bringing up this most recent situation. But ironically there is nothing else to find it's all gone

The comments section here proves people don't seem to know much about finance. The Tariffs are a bargaining tool. What this video doesn't tell you is what Canada is charging us for Tariffs. Tobacco is 1,000%, Milk is 270%, and eggs are 163% just to name a few. But people harping on 25%. It is called quit taking advantage of us if we're allies.

Canada and Mexico are our trading partners. If qe don't buy their goods, they don't buy ours. We all sink together.

If the Canadian and Mexicans go into a recession they don’t engage in excess spending. Spending generally spent on things like American goods, services or travel. But here is the thing, you don’t have to force a recession to get the same cross border impact. Boycotts like you see piping up across Canada will do the same thing. So here is the US, paying more, selling less and taking a hit economically in tourism even before tariffs are put on product simply because of posturing. Seems like a bad deal for the Americans regardless of what happens across the border.

Mr. Newman, if you realize it is going to hurt the other economies, then you realize they will be coming to the United States. It will cause more inflation in our economy.

This is exactly the problem with the average American. You need to care about things other than yourself, not just the things that affect you. 🤷 that’s a basic principle of being human.

What would be worse is Canada having to defend itself. The only reason we don't have Chinese or Russian Masters is the US.
It's far cheaper to even the trade deficit.

anybody would think Tarrifs only affect the exporting countries by lowering demand. But there’s also inflation in the importing country. American First makes Inflation

Everything is replaceable. If goods from Mexico and Canada becomes pricey. Importers will look for alternative. Eventually, exporters from Canada and Mexico will have to stomach some for the tariff to not lose their number 1 client which is the US who is the number 1 importer in the world. It’s a lose-lose situation but it’s always the win for the one who is importing them.

It’s to drive American manufacturing back to the U.S. Take a look around people. Do you see any homeless people on the streets? Do you see any drug or alcohol addicted people on you city streets? They have been disenfranchised over the last 40 years by the ‘sucking sound’ of American jobs being exported out of the country ( by both political parties). Those people used to build our cars, make our steel and build our silicon. ALL that’s gone. Trump is trying to bring it all back home so those disenfranchised citizen can have a job and be given back their dignity and sense of self worth. How do you propose fixing it otherwise?

Well… it's not the counter tariffs that make things more expensive. It's the tariffs themselves that make things more expensive. The counter tariffs make American goods more expensive in Canada, but the Average MAGA cultist doesn't care if Canadians get to pay more. But the higher prices will actually bring down the consumption of American goods in Canada, driving down the profits of the affected businesses.

It will come back to bite America and its economy. Trump is not about America 1st. He is about Trump only. It will hurt us, and he will blame someone else. He did that with the Ohio train wreck, and now the plane crash in DC after he gutted the FAA. He blamed Obama!? Biden!? But never himself, his policies, or his actions that caused it!

Lets take it one step further. Americans don't need to care that Canada made a mistake by having only one customer.
They enjoy a stronger dollar buying power and a 15% discount on energy.
The tariffs not only negate that advantage it forced Canada to find new markets and customers.
Thereby ending or severely decaying future trade.
Net result, the store has closed and prices don't matter anymore.

You're asking the wrong question. The question you should be asking is what is it about our society that drives so many young people to seek relief from reality in the use of mind altering substances. If it was not Fentanyl it would have been a Different drug they Overdosed on.

Im so thankful for this. The root of the US problem is globalization. No country should rely on another for the majority of their goods and services. This one world idea is not an American one. We were used to bring it to the world though. That time is over…

Truly not accounting for most of your valuable resources. Oil & gas, lumber, minerals & ore, every single food group that stocks their shelves, not to mention that 30 states use electricity from Canada. Nobody wins, but America would face a devastating blow with a loss of two trusted & reliable trade partners.
